all i want IS christmas!
i'm generally too strictly adherent to the "rules" of the seasons to appreciate active anticipation of a holiday, but the last few days i've been in a very christmassy mood. not sure the reason why i'm antsy for the holidays - maybe it's because christmas is a warm, cozy time and i'm missing my family and home; maybe because the baby grable will be back from his australian adventure; maybe because it signifies my two weeks of vacation time all year; maybe because maggie's going to be saying "i do" to herscher; maybe because i'll get to leave southern california and go play in the snow. whatever the reason, it's not even halloween and i'm craving starbucks holiday cups, sugar cookies, poinsettias, stockings, white lights sparkling on fresh snow drifts, 'stubby pringle's christmas', the radiating warmth from the fireplace, pan after pan of fudge, handel's messiah, pine scented candles...
i'm sure in no time, christmas will be here. and despite my early awareness of the season, i will likely still not be ready! i'll be in handford for the next three weeks, then a quick trip home for thanksgiving weekend. when i come back it will be just weeks until the flurry of the walter/herscher wedding. then i'll be coasting through my last days of pediatrics with tests through the 23rd. all of a sudden it will be christmas eve and i'll be flying home for the holidays. for now i'll just satisfy my cravings with frank sinatra's christmas collection, the messiah, and a little mariah carey on my ipod; a steaming peppermint mocha; movie night with down comforter and 'love actually'.
although early, i wish you all a glimpse of the fullness and warmth of christmas in your day...even if it is only october! be it flannel sheets, hot drinks, sneaking a christmas tune into your play list, a warm smile from a stranger - merry, merry to all!

baby grable? who the heck do you think you are!? oh yeah, my big sister...and you better be ready to play in the snow, cause i'm hitting schweitzer hard. surfings fun and all, but i prefer my water frozen, thank you. i think your post made me miss home more than any other single thing since i've been here. i can't wait! i love our home at christmas, especially with the messiah on full rotation, maybe a little evie slipped in for entertainment? and i believe you and i've got a date with starbucks...i haven't had coffee since i've been here. this is not ok. see ya at home!
it's a date! i can't wait to get to hang out, hear all your stories in person, browse your 1000s of photos! :) i'm excited for the frozen stuff, too - hopefully it's a deep winter...
i can't believe i finally made it into your blog! :0 can you believe i'm getting married? yiiiikes! it's only 55 days away, colleen. my wedding website told me that this morning. that means you get to go home for christmas pretty soon too! :) it's a beautiful, partly sunny, crisp day in portland. you'd love it. do you have any spare time this weekend other than during my shower (of gifts, not water)? want to grab a starbucks? i know they won't have their christmas cups out yet, but... have a good week...call me if you have time this weekend...i'm getting in at 11 on friday night. love you!
mags...of course i have time for you this weekend. i'm sure you've got at least some fam stuff going on, but my saturday's looking pretty empty! and sunday after your shower i'll probably just be packing for hanford, so you could always come chill on my bed while i pack, too! we'll definitely be in touch - you can give me a call when you get in friday night or anytime sabbath...
can't wait to see you!
band alert! kings of convenience--quiet is the new loud. such a good cd! really chill and relaxed. sara, you might like it too, it's really mellow, kind of like that iron and wine cd i gave you. check them out, spread the word!
Ooh . . . I was just listening to Iron and Wine yesterday. It acts as a nice counter to paper-writing stress. So thanks again!
i realize it's a little late in the game to add a comment here, but as i was walking by starbucks tonight, i saw it decorated for christmas. and i thought, i hope colleen visits a starbucks soon, and finds her holiday starbucks cup. so, anyway... happy early christmas to you! ciao!
